Are you ready to get engaged? If you said yes, then you’re starting to think (or panic) about an engagement ring. Honestly, being educated on diamond quality and value is a lifelong learning experience. Rather than tackle the entire topic, let me start with the what and the when.
WHAT
The engagement ring shopping process typically takes several meetings to reach a good decision. One of the best ways to start the process is to concentrate on the style of the ring.
I like to start by showing one ring style in six different categories to help get the ball rolling. Putting these six styles on a tray and comparing - and trying on - really helps a buyer focus and determine their own favorite styles. The photo you see is a classic solitaire, but I also show a halo, solitaire with tapered baguettes, solitaire with thin diamond shank, three stone ring, and diamond eternity band.
In most cases, one or two styles will be eliminated right away. Then they’ll narrow down to two or three styles before making a final decision.
Two other factors are key in making a good bridal decision:
- Remember that this may be worn for a lifetime. What color metal do you want your wedding jewelry to be?
- Will you wear this engagement ring with another band and how will they fit together?
WHEN
Couples fall in love and get engaged all year long, but when we have shoppers before a holiday, we always encourage them to finalize their decisions and present the diamond for the holiday. Whether it’s Valentine’s Day, Christmas or the Fourth of July, these are always happy days and make a great memory. It also makes holiday shopping easy because what else do you need when you’ve got an engagement ring in your pocket?
Valentine’s Day is only a week away, so if love is in your air, come see us. We’re ready for you!
