Do you own a lot of jewelry that you don’t seem to wear anymore? Rather than getting rid of a piece because it appears outdated, or worse, selling a treasured family heirloom, let me offer a couple of solutions.
You’ve heard of “mixing and matching” and “layering or stacking” and that’s what you can do here …
Do you have an old gold bangle that hasn’t seen the light of day? Try stacking it with some newer gold link bracelets. Lagos and Hardy have some beautiful sterling and gold combination bracelets – add that bangle or an older gold link bracelet for a fresh new look.
Do you own your grandmother’s wedding ring? Try stacking it on your right hand with other narrow bands for a super modern and completely personal look. Mixing metals and setting styles makes the stack even more unique. And how great is it to be wearing your grandmother’s ring?!
The classic solitaire diamond or pearl pendant may look dated when worn alone. But layer it with chains in different lengths and it becomes a very modern and casual style. Adding a bar necklace below and a station necklace above completely updates almost any pendant.
And here’s a pro tip: the key to layering necklaces is graduating the lengths from top to bottom by 1 to 1 ½ inches so they nest inside each other rather than tangling. We can help you do this by adding in an “O” ring at the desired lengths rather than shortening your chain.
Do you have an older style ladies’ watch that looks too petite? Layer it with bracelets in the same color metal - both above and below the watch on your wrist - creating a stack with a watch in the middle. Or, get your dad’s old watch and shorten the bracelet for your wrist. A larger watch case looks very au courant on a ladies-sized wrist as long as the bracelet or strap fits correctly.
Did you love the gold and stone bead necklaces of the 70’s and 80’s? At Haltom’s, we can restring them and take out the gold beads allowing you to wear it in long layers with gold or sterling link chains. If you haven’t noticed, lapis is having a terrific resurgence, probably because the beautiful royal blue color is so desirable today.
Does this make you start thinking about some redo’s and remodeling in your own jewelry box? I hope so! Get out your treasures and bring them in for a design consultation – we can help you with fresh new looks using many pieces you already own!
