Our association with the Tarrant Area Food Bank began in 2007, and the Haltom’s Employee Charity Fund has made this wonderful and necessary charity a big part of our annual giving for the past 12 years.
Many of us have volunteered to work at their main facility. We then had a friend and customer, Mary Katherine Anderson, speak and educate us about the TFB mission. As some of you know, we do in-house battery changes at no charge – we provide the batteries and our team provides the labor, hoping that our customers will donate to our charity fund in lieu of payment.
This option has been terrific, and we’ve donated over $100,000.00 to our community over the past decade. The Food Bank, Komen, Patriot Paws, and the Back to School program for children of Healing Wings patients are all worthy recipients!
Every fall our focus turns to helping provide food and snacks for school kids’ weekend programs. Did you know that peanut butter is perfect for the weekend backpacks – it needs no refrigeration, no cooking and can be eaten right out of the jar! The goal here is to keep kids from being hungry on Monday morning so they can concentrate on their schoolwork. We also donate to the spring Empty Bowls fundraiser.
Our charity donations in the greater Fort Worth community have helped needy kids and we’re proud of this work. We’re thankful to our generous customers, and also proud of the teamwork within our company because we know that giving and community involvement make all our lives better.
